Also, consider the design, including the size, shape, and location of the deck. Outdoor living and entertaining is a huge part of contemporary living and a well-designed deck will add value to your lifestyle and home.

In New South Wales many decking projects are considered "Exempt Development" and do not require council approval. Your project may be exempt if it meets the following criteria:
- Less than 25 square meters in size.
- Floor level is less than 1 meter above ground level and 3 meters for a pergola roof.
It's important to note that even if your deck meets the criteria for exempt development, you are still required to comply with the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and zoning requirements.

- A Complying Development Certificate (CDC) takes 2-10 business days once the necessary documentation has been submitted.
- A DA will take 2-3 months on average.
-
A Complying Development Certificate (CDC) is a certificate issued by a local council or accredited certifier, which confirms a proposed development complies with predetermined planning and building standards. It allows for a streamlined development assessment and approval for certain types of development, such as minor renovations, decking and pergolas.
-
- Check with us, your local council or a private certifier to determine if your project is eligible.
- Prepare and submit a CDC application to the NSW Planning Portal, including detailed plans and specifications.
- A private certifier will review the application to ensure it complies with the relevant codes and standards, including the BCA and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
- The private certifier will conduct an inspection of the site to ensure the proposed deck complies with the plans and specifications submitted in the application.
- If the private certifier is satisfied that the proposed deck complies with the relevant codes and standards, they will issue a CDC.

A small, simple deck can be built in a matter of days, while a larger, more complex deck can take several weeks to complete. Your quote will include an accurate project timeline.

We recommend using CUTEK Extreme CD50. You can check the condition of the protective layer by dripping water onto the boards. If the water pools on top, the surface coating is in good condition. If the timber absorbs the water, it should be recoated.

It’s a common mistake to neglect oiling the surface of the decking, and let the weather and UV do the work for you. With longevity in mind, we take a different approach:
- Apply ‘tannin remover’ to the installed decking boards to accelerate the process.
- Scrub the deck surface with ‘deck clean’ and a broom.
- Apply two coats of CUTEK oil. CUTEK is a completely clear oil that will allow your deck to grey naturally while providing long-term protection. We can even add a grey COLOUR TONE to help achieve the look right away.
